Sacoyo Alpacas South Africa

Welcome to SACOYO

and to the

Wonderful World of Alpacas

For centuries people have been drawn to Alpacas for their superior fiber. In South Africa we are just beginning to see the growth potential in the Alpaca Industry.

While most people who invest in Alpacas fall into one of three groups most are attracted to raising these magnificent animals because they offer us the chance to escape the rat race of our hectic modern lifestyle:

The first group wants to increase all values in their lives: They try to live from breeding Alpacas while creating an environment where their families can grow up  and develop values and a work ethic. The second primary group of people raising Alpacas have finished raising their own families and are ready to settle down, sometimes to an early retirement with the goal of creating a continuous income from their investment while raising animals that are a joy to share your lives with. Finally, there are those who are involved strictly for the investment with no plan of ever becoming involved in the daily care of their Alpacas.

New Roads, new Horizons... One says every seven years one changes, skin, hair, thoughts... Nothing stays the same, especially when you are keen to explore the world and soak in different shades of life. We, that is Carmen and Udo Mettendorf, started our first journey some 18 years ago in a 4x4 exploring Africa from top to toe, then the skies in a hot-air balloon, a bit more settled bringing our South African home from shambles to new glory. Somehow our journey should not end here, so Udo stumbles over Alpacas - somewhere in the  galaxies of the internet.
Boys Galore, there must be a girl around

Young alpaca girlFull of new enthusiasm we hurried into buying Alpacas. No glue about microns, crimp nor conformation. Waking up with new responsibilities Alpacas are not only the dream of a great investment, no, they are wonderful living creatures with needs and requirements, too. One cannot collect all information on books, so hands-on experience was needed. And that is when Maria Bravo from Quintessence came into our lives. Some weeks of training on her farm Llay Llay in Chile - only then we realized what the future would have in store for us. To be a successful Alpaca breeder we must learn a lot, best teacher Maria: dedication, relentless determination to achieve perfectionism, no compromise when it comes to well-being and quality of the Alpacas. Alpaca girl

Alpaca girlThat is what we learned and that is what we want to bring into the Joint Venture: SACOYO ALPACAS of South Africa in partnership with QUINTESSENCE Alpacas international.

SACOYO will not only be  Sales of Alpacas, SACOYO will emphasize on support for the dedicated Alpaca investor, we want to share information for the benefit of Alpacas and the new industry. There is a long way ahead of us in South Africa as Alpaca breeding is in its infancy, but we will make a difference.

Our trusted friends and co-operates in South Africa are Jan and Fletcher Jamieson from Novello Farm in Montagu and Dietmar Keil und Kerstin Heisterkamp from Manor House Alpacas on Landskroon, Suider-Paarl. They have already started alpaca farming and are also willing to help any newcomer with advice and practical support were they can.

All of them are dedicated Alpaca-maniacs.

Call us, Carmen or Udo, we are willing to help - and of course we love to sell you our wonderful healthy and colourful quality Alpacas from Quintessence :
